Bad

Evan had rotten teeth. His front teeth have cavities on them to be more precise. I am feeling like a horrible mother because I put off taking him to the dentist for so long. Because of his age he will have to be sedated. Because of his heart it will have to be general anesthesia and he will have to be carefully monitored. That means that the fillings will have to be done at a major hospital. *sigh* This whole thing turned out to be a much bigger ordeal than I had anticipated.

I am not sure when or where even this all will take place. Evan's heart surgery is taking top billing. I am definitely being a bigger meanie about brushing. I am not letting him get away with a few half hearted swipes because he is throwing a temper tantrum. Mean mommy is in da house.

Oh, I'm so sorry! That is so hard, when you think of all the 'woulda coulda shoulda's' of taking care of kids' teeth. (I know of which I speak: my kids got their 'teeth genes' from dad... not a great choice, if you ask me, and we've been back and forth on the dental repair front for years. *sigh*)

Hope you get it all taken care of. Too bad they can't schedule the dentist to sit in for his half hour while you already have to have Evan under for the heart procedure. NOt that it would be better, but I can imagine that having to deal with one less surgery and one less 'thing' might be nice to dream of!

I wish I could do that but it is not possible to combine the procedures. The tooth repair will take longer than just a half hour (the dentist mentioned something about crowns on the two front teeth egad!) and that takes awhile. Evan's heart surgery will be at least eight hours long and the less time he is under anesthesia the better off he will be when recovering.

Im pretty sure more tooth brushing would have pevented this problem. Because his teeth came in so early and all the puking he did with his reflux, I think stomach acid is the cause of this. So stop feeling guilty, that's an order from your sainted mother!

Yep, I hear you. I started brushing everyone's teeth after paying $1000 for two "root canals" of sort for my oldest.

Correction: Good mommy is in da house. Dental hygeine is a good thing. Now write that down one hundred times!

Hey, if we were perfect, we'd be perfect right? LOL!

Do NOT beat yourself up on this. Some kids have teeth of steel, others have cavity-prone mouths.

My youngest, who has no other health issues, began getting cavities at a very young age, to the point where her pediatric dental specialist said it looked like "bottle mouth" - except that Rebecca was never put to bed with a bottle.

Her teeth are now beautiful, but we went through sedation dentistry and the whole shebang.

I felt like a horrible mother.

Now you know you have to be adament about brushing. We live and we learn.

And you are an awesome mom and I like the look of the blog...this is a new template since my last visit...
