The Embarrassing Moment That Did Not Happen

There is a gal that used to live in my ward with her mother. She left for a mission, came back for awhile and then got married and moved. She comes back now and then with her "interesting" husband to visit her mother.

Last Christmas I saw her again after not having seen her for quite some time. She had gained quite a bit of weight, especially in the stomach area. I thought she looked at least five or six months pregnant. I was excited for her but did not get a chance to approach her and congratulate her. I also did not get much of a chance to talk to her mother to congratulate her either.

It turns out this was a very fortuitous happening. I saw her again today sitting with her mother at church just as chubby as she had been at Christmas. There was no baby in sight. I am so very utterly thankful that I was able to avoid the whole "No, I am not pregnant I am just fat" conversation with her. I am equally glad that I was able to also avoid that same conversation with her mother. The only people that know that I thought she was pregnant are you and I know you can keep it secret.............. right?

Was it Dave Barry, who said that you should NEVER congratulate a woman on her pregnancy unless you can actually see the baby emerging at that very moment?!

My sister in law and I went to rent a video in her little town and the lady at the counter looked at her huge stomach and said sympathetically "It won't be much longer now" only to be told acidly by SIL that the baby was three months old and at home with Dad.... Wither.....

a girl the other day asked me if i was "on my second." as in, are you pregnant? to be fair (to me!) i was wearing an empire top that flares out and, while cute looking, DOES make one look rather preggo. anyway, i was still super irritated. i would never!

My sister who is overweight (her belly weight makes her look 6 months pregnant)was once thought to be pregnant by a waitress. THANK GOODNESS my sister wasn;t in the room and heard this! The waitress told me she assumed she was pregnant and I quickly corrected her.

I asked a lady that once. I was visiting my friend D in the hodspital and looking at her new baby in the nursery. Another women came by. I was 7 months preg with E and she looked about the same size as I was. SO.... I asked her when her baby was due. She gave me a very dirty look and said she had just given birth yesterday! oops.

Hi--well, that would really have been an embarrasment. I did that once many years back and learned my lesson!

I did that once and felt HORRIBLY afterwards. Since then, I never comment unless it is soooooo painfully obvious they are about to give birth at any time.

Good catch. :-)

i did that booboo once and was told off in a rather rude manner!

i always observe for a while before offering my seat in busses or trains to not-so-obviously pregnant ladies nowadays.

Oh, goodness. That would have been embarrassing.

I saw a teenage girl who was out with her family at the store yesterday-- like, 14 or 15-- and she looked pregnant on first glance. She probably thought I was weird because I was checking her ankles, wrists, cheeks, and eyes out... (I finally decided "not pregnant", and was glad I am not the type to approach strange teenage girls and talk about pregnancy unprovoked at the grocery store.)

Hee hee! A college friend went to get her hair cut and rubbed the round belly of the stylist, making a comment about her baby. The stylist (not pregnant) was very unhappy. My friend decided to leave then rather than have a woman she'd basically insulted cut her hair!
