My harrowing snow adventure

Yesterday it snowed all day and we got several inches of snow. We were supposed to head to the mall for playgroup but in the process of cleaning the snow off my car I dropped my keys and lost them. I think that was Heavenly Father's way of warning me that I should not go out driving in the snow especially with kids in the car.

Later that evening was a cookie exchange that I had been looking forward to. Boy Scouts was canceled for my husband so I got to take the minivan to the activity. I thought it was heavy enough to handled the still unplowed roads. Apparently it was not since it could not make it back up the hill that was near the house where the activity was being held. I was not the only one that was having trouble and the host's husband ended up helping several of us by towing our cars up the hill.

I am still nervous about driving but have a ton of things to do all week. I just wish the city was better about keeping the roads clean and ice free. In Utah there really was no such thing as driving in snow, the roads were very promptly plowed and sanded. Growing up I never understood why my parents dreaded snow but now I know exactly why they hated it.

HI! The only reason I didn't end up trying to trek to both events as well is that I came down with strep (again! for the second time in two weeks! grr...). I was really disappointed about missing both, but it sounds as though I might be glad I missed driving through snowy, hilly Clarion in the dark! And yeah, the city really fell down on the job yesterday. At least it was just snow and not ice, which is actually a more common driving hazard here. And at least I have a really good excuse to stay indoors for a couple of days!

Yes, it definitely makes a difference how well they take care of the roads. In my city, they usually do a great job so things are rarely canceled. Where I went to college they didn't plow the roads right away and I thought it was so strange.

We have had a really awful time weather wise here. We have had two storms over the past week - the first one was an ice storm that knocked out all the power statewide. People still haven't gotten their power back. We also just had a snow/ice storm that dropped three-four inches on us last night. YAY snow and winter!

Driving in snow with kids in tow is always tough! We get salted pretty good here, but I do not go out until the city takes care of it.

Wyoming isn't much better. You would think that they would because they get so much of it and they are close to Utah, here anyway, but no such luck. The reason for it here is that the plows are all busy trying to keep I-80 open. Town is the last thing to get cleaned up. Thank goodness for our FJ Cruiser! This town is all up-hill or down-hill no matter where you go in town.

Oh my gosh. I haven't lived anywhere with snow since I was in high-school, and I can't imagine doing it with kids! Seriously, mom's in snowy states work harder than us, no matter what the job is!!

OH my gosh--dropping them in the snow? That's horrible! I'm in Canada right now and we have barely ventured out because of the cold -18 right now...BRRRRRRRR!
