A Eulogy for Evan's Nap

It is a sad day today. We have come together to mourn the loss of Evan's Nap. Evan's Nap was a welcome friend when Evan was a baby. It gave a tired and exhausted mother a chance to rest and recuperate. I could count on two lovely and glorious naps where I could catch up on cleaning and sleeping. When the naps were consolidated into one longer nap I was sad but took it in stride.

I knew that Evan's Nap would eventually pass on. It was only a matter of time. I was happy that Evan's Nap lasted as long as it did, after hearing the horror stories from Grandma about how Evan's father's Nap had it's demise when Evan's father was a mere twelve months old. A mom can still hope though.

Evan's Nap's replacement Quiet Time is just not the same, I think that Quiet Time may be fired soon. First off Quiet Time is anything but quiet. It is filled with shrieks like one would hear in a room filled with agitated monkeys. Occasionally the shrieks will destroy Harry's Nap, leaving mom frazzled and annoyed while dealing with a cranky toddler. Quiet Time is also not very relaxing for mom since she has to listen for sharp and loud crashing noises that tell her that you have tripped and fallen while doing something that Evan was not supposed to be doing.

Please excuse my tears, Evan's Nap was a very dear friend and will be sorely missed in the Awesome Mom household.

Please accept my condolences on the "loss" of Evan's nap. Is there any chance it is hiding? Maybe a trip to the park or a long walk will coax it out for a short return.

I am so sorry. May I suggest books on CD in the family room as a quiet time? It worked wonders for us. No nap interruptus for A, and a little break for me. Frances, available at Amazon, lasts 45 minutes! Five stories! Buy the books, as the CDs don't come with the books. There is also Thomas on CD.

Oh yes, a very sad day indeed. Is there the possibility that removal of nap means a slightly earlier bed time or is that me just being shamelessly optimistic?
Cheers

Hi AM--whew, the nap is such a sacred thing (smile). My little one is 4 and still takes a 2 hour nap. Sorry to hear this. I've found thta as they get a little older there are periods where the nap has to be insisted on.

I know it is only a matter of time before I say goodbye to Zakary's naps too.

I have much sympathy for you. We also mourned the loss of our nap when Paige turned 2. We have been coping with the loss for a whole year now.

I don't think I will fully recover until I find another to take it's place.... like school. Maybe then I can heal.

Oh dear. My deepest sympathies. I am holding on for dear life to my daughter's two naps for as long as they last, but I fear Morning Nap is not long for this world.
