Stop repeating me!

Back in the day a great way to drive your sibling insane was to repeat everything that they said. It was delicious fun that was only ruined when the sibling finally stopped talking altogether. Now I am not laughing. Evan is in one of his phases and this phase is him repeating me. Sometimes it is just the last word I say and sometimes it is the entire sentence.

My patience has been getting quite the workout. I find it quite ironic that part of our job as a parent is to teach our children patience and to do that we have to develop an even greater amount of patience than we had previously. If you had an adult at work following you around repeating everything that you said you would go insane and might even have murderous thoughts. You would have the option of talking to someone with higher authority or even quitting your job if the annoyance was great enough. With your kids a higher level of behavior is needed. You can't just quit on your kids or shut them in the room so that you don't have to hear them. It is a good thing that Evan is so cute and lovable.

I had to laugh at your post - I have a coworker that does this exact thing - and I do want to murder him! I hope Evan gets through this phase quickly!

hmmmmm. So true!!!

My kids haven't tried it out on me, but they sure bug the crap out of eachother with that game.

When my kids start doing that to me, I just stop speaking to them, which drives them crazy! I give fair warning that if they keep doing it, I'll stop talking, then I do. Grace usually cracks after about ten seconds. And if they start copying again after I start talking again, they get the silent treatment for a WHILE!

By the way, thanks for taking my class last week. Hope it went okay for you. I guess I'm losing a student; I got a voicemail from Tonya Mundy this afternoon, looking for help packing to move to Arizona this week.
Bummer.

Oh, I love this game. When the kids copy me...

"Mom, I want only vegetables for dinner."

"I want you to eat my ice cream Mom."

"You're the best Mom."

"You look fabulous."

"I am a silly, silly Twinkie."

It's great fun.

I had always hoped, as I was raising you, that you would eventually get kids just like yourself! And it looks like that has happened! Aint Karma wonderful!

I agree with Mean Mom...that's exactly what I did with my kids. Love coming up with those phrases that said what a wonderful, cute, terrific mother I was! (Now why did they get bored with the game so soon when I was just getting them brainwashed?)

Aw man, Awesome, I HAVE a co-worker who does this -- she is "management" and somehow convoluted the "active listening" lessons into repeating whatever last 5- 7 words the last speaker says. Like a creepy echo or a bad parrot. I would love to teach her a real life lesson but lack the patience. Maybe Evan would come on over and lay it all down?

Emma does the EXACT. SAME. THING. AND, she's taught it to her sister. AAAARGH. Inevitably when we go on a car ride longer than 5 minutes, it happens, and we're TRAPPED IN THE CAR WITH THEM! AAAACK!
