Oops

In my flutter over our new computer I forgot to post about my oh so delightful (I am being sarcastic here) OB appointment. It same on top of an already crappy day so I kind of wanted to just avoid the whole thing but went any as I had already blown of the previous appointment thanks to my pregnancy brain.

One of the Midwives in the practice did my exam. It was horribly uncomfortable and the Pap smear part was actually quite painful, which has never happened to me before. Yeah it has been very uncomfortable but never painful. Oddly enough before this one I had only had male doctors doing them on me. You would think that a woman would be more aware of discomfort issues.

The best part of the visit was when I got to hear the heartbeat of the baby. Until the baby is big enough to really make it's presence known it really is hard to internalize that there is a living being existing inside of you. It was nice to be able to hear the proof. I will be getting an ultrasound next week to confirm my dates (my cycles are super wonky and I was feeling big for gestational age) so I may have some blurry gray baby pictures to post. Hopefully it will cooperate and be photogenic. Most of Evan's are of his spine and Harry's are not much better.

Love baby heartbeats. I have both KT and Nick's taped. Of course, I don't have a tape player to PLAY them on anymore, but I do have them taped!

I loved those appointments just for the listening to the baby! Sorry to hear that the rest of the stuff was not so good.

Much sympathy =(. I've always hated OB apt. The heart beat is very cool, and I was glad that the last Dr saved it till last so I could have something to distract me so I wasn't in such an icky mood afterward.

I hate "exams". (I think I've said that before.) I'd just as soon skip them.

Can't wait to see pic's of the new baby!

I hate paps (who doesn't really?). My sister had one at the begining of her pregnancy that caused what I guess was a lot of bleeding (and a lot of stress, as you can imagine). But all is well now.

And yay on hearing the little baby, that's the best.

I've found that those who give painful paps are just not great OBs. Great OBs do it without pain.

And hurray for a heartbeat!

I had the worst pap ever last time, done by a nurse practitioner. I'll never let her near me again with a speculum!

It would be great to see your ultrasound, and I'm glad you could hear the heartbeat! Both of those things make the baby seem more real somehow, doesn't it?

Ohhhh....One of life's greatest pleasures- hearing that heart beat.

I've had good and bad OB's some men some women.

When I was learning to perform paps they say put your finger on the lower edge introtus and have the patient tighten up and then slowly relax. Then open up the speculum. If you force it when they are nervous it will be very painful because their natural tendencies will be to fight it and clench up. (Too much info??)

In the past I've had very uncomfortable paps and ached for several days afterwards. The woman Dr. I see now seems more skillful. Her shots are less painful, too.
Can't wait to see pictures!

Hey - so nice that you got to hear the heartbeat!

My OB practice was three women and one man. The man had the gentlest hands ever - startlingly so.
